As a self-taught artist, I use acrylics on linen or canvas to paint objects that resonate with me - primarily through their shape, colour and texture.
My work has a particular, considered form and palette, with a strong sense of objects within the confines of the canvas - creating a moment of intimacy that draws the viewer in.
Each carefully selected object is paid lavish attention to its detail with subtle nuances and pattern. The power of the objects lies in their perceived triviality.
The genre of still life is one of reliability, repetition and memory. It is a world of habit and continuity, of objects whose primary function has remained fixed and unchanged.
My focus on the objects erases their function to a certain extent as they become
more than just the physical and are viewed for their inherent beauty.
