FINALIST - Portia Geach Memorial Award 2025
We are delighted to share that Lori Pensini has been named a finalist in the prestigious Portia Geach Memorial Award 2025 for her painting 'Song Bird' - 96 x 90 cm, Oil on raw linen. This award, regarded as Australia’s most esteemed prize for female portraiture, has been held annually since 1961 at the S.H. Ervin Gallery in Sydney, celebrating outstanding women artists across the nation.
Artist Statement:
Human activities are the primary driver of biodiversity loss and the most important determinant on species distribution, persistence and richness. Our impact/ footprint on the natural world has far reaching consequences for all aspects of human well being. ‘Song Bird’ opens up dialogue around our social values in regards to our engagement with our environment and wild life conservation. It considers the point we are nature, nature is not a mere backdrop for us to play in and reflects on our role in protecting the planets heath to ensure a healthy future for generations.
We warmly congratulate Lori on this achievement and look forward to seeing Song Bird exhibited alongside an exceptional cohort of women artists at the S.H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney, from 19 September – 2 November 2025.
