WELCOME - Gary Harrison-Hearn
We are delighted to welcome multidisciplinary and versatile artist Gary Harrison-Hearn to The Studio Gallery.
Born in England in 1945, Gary’s creative path has been shaped by a life rich in movement, experience, and reinvention. His artistic foundation was laid early, with formal studies at the College of Art and Design in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. However, his journey took a long detour as he dedicated himself to family life and a career in the Royal Air Force. Yet throughout those years, the thread of art remained quietly but persistently present.
After emigrating to Western Australia, Gary rediscovered his passion for painting in the 1990s. Initially working in watercolour, he explored the emotive qualities of the medium with inspiration drawn from masters like Turner, Flint, and Robert Wade. But it was a move to Germany in 2002 that marked a true turning point in his practice. There, under the influence of artist Emile Maul, Gary shifted to oil on canvas and fully embraced the world of abstraction.
His paintings today are bold, expressive, and deeply personal. They speak to a life lived across cultures and contexts, translating experience into colour, form, and movement. Every work invites the viewer into an emotional and intuitive dialogue—an open-ended exploration of memory, perception, and response.
We’re thrilled to share Gary’s work with our visitors and to add his distinctive voice to the gallery’s evolving story. Welcome, Gary!
