Mel Brigg’s art is characterised by a blend of textural and abstract elements with figurative imagery, resulting in paintings that are both emotive and evocative. His work often delves into the complexities of human migration, particularly addressing the experiences of those leaving Africa and asylum seekers in Australia. Central to his artistic approach are elements such as light, perspective, texture, structure, and atmospheric colour, that come together to create compelling and thought-provoking works. Mel’s paintings reflect his deep commitment to social and environmental issues. His work is a testament to the power of visual storytelling in addressing important themes.
"The Language of Flowers is a signature concept in my art practise, exploring the fundamental connections between humanity and nature. Interlacing botanicals and figures blur the line between the natural world and the human form to convey the belief everything is connected at the deepest level. I am biophilic by nature, inherently drawing strength from a lifelong lived in the Australian bush. These works are an interpretation of the immersive experience of my nature affinity, they encourage us to lean in, engage a sense of belonging and advocate a more mindful conscious relationship with the natural world and ourselves." - Lori Pensini 2025
