Banksia Grandis and The Secret Keepers (Diptych)
Oil on Linen

Birds are the messengers of the bush, an integral part of bush fertilisation and health. They tell other birds through their songs where to find food, shelter and when. They are used here as metaphors to represent women and the key role they play in handing down the stories and secrets of generations past, of the women that have shaped them. Here there are 4 generations in song - mothers, aunties, grandmothers and great grandmothers, they are singing to the next generation, the daughters. The left diptych almost mirrors the right diptych as a continuum to reinforce the looping, the re telling of stories so they won’t be forgotten.
