Biography:

As a young student I had keen interests in the Arts and developed a talent, which gave me the ability to create some eye-catching work at an early age. Even though it was primitive and naive at the time. At the age of 14 there was an opportunity for me to study Art, evenings and weekends, at the College of Art and Design in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Sadly, I had to abandon my studies to find full time employment to support my mother after my father’s untimely death.

I was born in England shortly after the end of the Second World War, in November 1945

My working life began at the age of 16 when I became an employee for British Railways. But when that work ended, I then found alternative employment mainly in Civil Engineering, Mining and the Construction Industry.

In 1968 I joined the Royal Air Force. During the 12 years I served, in Great Britain, Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar, Singapore and the Maldives Islands.

After leaving the Royal Air Force, I decided to start a new life and emigrated to Western Australia. There I worked for a number of years in Marine Engineering, Medical Services, the Construction Industry and as a Housing and Maintenance Manager for the Western Australian State Government.

In 1994 I was encouraged to return to painting by F. Francis Younger, renowned Water Colourist, Graphic Designer, Letterer and President of the Western Australian Watercolour Society.

I began painting again with watercolour as my first medium and was influenced by the works of Sir William Russell Flint, J.M.W. Turner and Australian artist, Robert A.Wade.

In December 2002 I returned to Europe, with my wife Ilka, to live in Heidelberg, Germany. In 2010 I decided to changed my medium from Watercolours to oils on canvas. I also changed from traditional subjects and began painting abstracts, after being inspired by local German artist Emile Maul.

I have now established myself as a competent abstract artist producing some innovative, striking and colourful work. My work can now be found in private collections in Australia, England, France, Germany, Poland and South Africa.

I Returned to live in Western Australia in September 2024 and I am now a proud member of (WASA) West Australian Society of Art.
