About the Artists:

“An artist to her core” Stephanie Holt (Arts Writer, Melbourne).

Biography:

Australian artist Jo Darvall creates work that reconnects people with their sensual nature, from her delicate paintings, to her kinetic installations and encaustic monoprints. Originally from Melbourne, Jo studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, receiving a BA in Fine Art in 1998. She established the Artists for Kids Culture Trust with fellow Roar Artists in the 1990s, and has raised over A$1M for charitable projects. Jo worked with Master Printer Kim Westcott and had a studio at the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne.

Since moving to Perth Jo has continued to build on her arts practice, and was recently awarded the Mandjar Corporate Art Award and City of Belmont Open Art Award. In addition to working from her PSAS studio in Fremantle, she is an arts educator at Fremantle Arts Centre. Her artwork now features in the Holmes a Court, WA Water Corporation, WA Children’s Hospital and Credit Suisse collections in Australia and private collections in New York, South Africa, One Farrer Hotel Singapore, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Highlights in 2014 were exhibiting in Hong Kong at the Asian Art Fair, a sell-out series on Western Australian historical figure C.Y. O’Connor leading to a large commission for the WA Water Corporation. While in 2015 Jo won the annual Mandjar Acquisitive Art Prize and held another sell out solo show at Merenda Contemporary in Fremantle; part 2 of her series on the O’Connor family. This time focusing on the life of the late Katherine O’Connor. This show is shortly to travel to the Busselton Regional Art Gallery.

Jo is an exciting dynamic artist emerging from an established Australian base onto the international art stage.
