Since retiring from a career of art education and classroom teaching 20 years ago, Carmen has worked as a full time artist. She paints in a loose impressionistic style that depicts real-life situations and scenes, then continues to manipulate the composition and colour combinations so that there is subtle or dynamic movement as the eye navigates the canvas. Water is a predominant theme which offers interesting variety and the opportunity to create emotive passages .
Carmen has travelled extensively to gather a diversity of resource material for her solo exhibitions and enjoys capturing the essence of Rottnest and the south west coast of W.A. She also researches places such as Bali, India, Italian countryside, the Greek Islands, Morocco, Spain, the French and Italian Riviera and Venice.
